Cundy Street Campaign
Don’t let the Duke of Westminster demolish our homes!
We are the residents of Cundy Street and Walden House and we need your help!
The property group Grosvenor, owned by the Duke of Westminster, wants to demolish our homes. This will destroy our community and uproot us from our homes.
The Duke of Westminster owns more land than the Queen. He is the richest landlord in the UK with an estimated wealth of £9 billion, which at the age of 28 makes him the richest person under 30 in the world. He does not need to do this to us.
We are a community that have been living in this area for over 40 years. Young families who have children that attend the local church school, elderly residents that should not be worried about losing their homes but rather be enjoying their retirement, single parents, and families that have been living here for generations.
We are a community, we live amongst friends and family and now face the possibility of having our community fragmented and destroyed.
Walden House is owned by Grosvenor, but historically has been leased to Westminster Council for council housing provision. Grosvenor are now cancelling the lease and plan to demolish the building.
The Cundy Street flats are a mixture of affordable and market rent accommodation next to Walden House. Many of the residents are elderly and have lived in the area their whole lives. These too will be knocked down.
We are facing homelessness and the break up of our community. We will not be able to afford similar housing in the area.
There is nothing wrong with these beautiful buildings – Grosvenor just want to make more money. This is simply about putting profit before people. This is valuable land, and we are seen as getting in the way of building high-rise luxury investment flats.
Please help us save this wonderful corner of London and our community.
We call on Grosvenor and Westminster City Council to cancel the plans to demolish Cundy Street Flats and Walden House.
